Sig Rune’s Non-Cycle

The Sig Rune’s cycle is a constant emission of energy that goes out forward. It goes straight, upward and downward. The emission is gentle rather than a hard rush. Sig is a constant.

As for a Sun cycle, we may experience Sig differently. In divination, for instance, it can represent “favorable conditions.” The Sun is a good example. In the northern latitudes, Summer is a time of favorable conditions and safe living. People can move about with greater freedom in Summer. In Winter, the world becomes more hazardous. For instance, Winter makes it unsafe to be caught outdoors overnight. Freezing cold can kill. This is not a problem of Summer, when conditions are more favorable.

In the case of Sig as “ favorable conditions,” it is not limited to the sun. We have all known good times and bad. Look at our own world today. We are going through an economic bad time. We had known favorable economic conditions several years ago, and will experience them again in the future. There is a cycle of favorable conditions interspersed with average conditions and unfavorable conditions. What we see in today’s economy is but one example. The cycle applies to most things.

How we handle the bad times depends on what we do in good times. Again, the analogy to the seasons is helpful. Those who make the right preparation in the favorable season can go through the harshest Winters easily. Those who do not prepare are likely to have a rough Winter. Remember the fable of the ant and the grasshopper.

Musashi, the Japanese warrior sage, said, “In all things there is a timing: a rising and falling. You must perceive this.”

Though Sig itself has no cycle, as such, the cycle of Favorable to Average to Unfavorable is one we ought consider judiciously.
