The Wunjo Coaster

The Wunjo Rune is a state of joy, and as such it is a constant thing. It has no cycle, yet our relationship to it is often a cyclic one. We experience joy as ups and downs, as mild pleasure to high elation. If we made a visual representation, it would be a graph showing a series of rising and falling waves. The image would look like the hills and dips of a roller coaster.

For most people, the ups and downs are slight. Those of a troubled nature are liable to experience deeper dips and taller hills. A common name for the extremes is “mood swings.” They are a state of constant change from one extreme to the other. There is no middle ground for them. A very extreme situation is one where a person goes from the depths of depression to the heights of elation, repeating this cycle time and again.

Wunjo is unchanging, but our experience of it can be cycles ranging from moderate to extreme. Those of a moderate nature get the fullest enjoyment of Wunjo, while the extreme ones have experiences that can cross the line into insanity. In the end, each of us chooses the depth and height of his own Wunjo cycle.
