Winding Down the Naud Rune

The Naud Rune is not a Rune that most would associate with a cycle. It is a downward and inward pressure. Manifestations of Naud can be found in English words with the root word press: compress, suppress, repress, etc. Though the root word is Latin, it describes the ancient German / Norse /AngloSaxon Naud Rune very well.

Naud is the kind of thing that presses until nothing is left. Naud is the origin of modern terms Naught, Need and Naughty. Naughty implies that the “naughty” individual is a person of “nothing.”

There is a cycle of Naud that is like a diminishing arc or an inward-shrinking spiral. Its motion is circular and always tightening and collapsing inward. The speed can be a rapid strangling compression or a slow and excruciating “winding down.” The Naud Rune is a Rune of decrease, so its cycle is always shrinking.
