The Chicken Nest Egg Rune
Yesterday we discussed the Perdra Rune as both the Cauldron and the Horn of Plenty. The analogy to the Cornucopia is useful. Just as the Horn provides an unending source of abundance, so Perdra is itself a provider. Pregnancy leads to new life. Gestation starts with a spark and culminates in the complete thing.
Do you see a possible connection to the chicken that laid an egg day after day?
Perdra is also a bowl or container. It is the bowl of food placed on the dinner table. Perdra is the nest into which the chicken lays its eggs. Likewise, Perda is seen in the egg-laying chicken and it is the egg itself. The chicken is like the Cornucopia, providing something good day after day. The egg is an instance of Perdra as pregnancy. The egg’s shell is the container of gestation, much as the womb contains the fetus.
An egg farmer can hold the egg up to the light to see the gestation of the chicken inside. He is seeing the process, and from it can deduce the future chicken. We can predict the future Wyrd by seeing what is developing in Wyrd today. This is one of the ways that divination works.
Like other Runes, Perdra is not such a mystery when it can be related to things in the everyday world. Many people find it hard to understand Perdra. In today’s discussion, understanding comes with the help of a chicken, an egg and a nest.
