Tyr Sacrifice
I thought I was close to getting the work finished on a book about Tyr, but that is not the case. Call it inspiration or a nudge from Asgard, but I started reading some old strategy books that I had not read in years. In the years since I last read them, I have accrued many examples that support some of their advice. Oddly enough, many were from non-military situations. I have more work to do before I can put the book together.
Tyr is a God of unified effort. This is what I call a “unified front.” It is cohesion based on a common willingness to accomplish a goal. Whether it comes from baseball or football or a club project, the example of cohesive effort must be appreciated. The idea is for all to work together enthusiastically toward the common goal.
Unified effort is one of the foundation stones of success. This is accomplished when the team members all put the good of the group ahead of the wants of the individual. It requires sacrificing selfish desires so as to participate in achieving the common good. The sacrifice of the one for the many is the sacrifice of Tyr. One who willingly gives up his own comfort for the good of the many is doing Tyr’s work. A unified front requires giving priority to the group. An allegorical expression of this is Tyr sacrificing his hand so that the Gods could bind the Fenris wolf. The myth is a stark illustration of sacrifice for the community.
