Service
There are many kinds of leadership. Business leadership is all about supporting the boss. People are hired to do just that. They are there to serve, not to be served. Military leadership is much the same.
The type of leadership that best serves Heathenism is leadership by service. In this case, the goal is serving the Heathen community rather than being served by it. Leadership of service does not seek to make followers. Instead, it succeeds when the people grow strong and are more independent. It empowers the people.
We need to remember that each of us is a leader. New Heathens look to us as examples of how to live. We cannot minimize the importance of our example. Example is the most potent instructor.
The desire to serve is an admirable one. Service to the overall good of Heathenism is necessary to ensure our future. The simplest service requires living to a higher standard. It is service by example. When we do our best, we inspire the best in others.
