Feeling the Eh Rune
Here are a few exercises to help you have a better experience of the Eh Rune. Give them a try. I hope you enjoy them. The Eh Rune energy is such that it pays to take a light touch to most of these exercises. If you find yourself smiling while doing them, you are on the right track. (The only heavy touch is the “recon” example, for obvious reasons. That might not evoke a smile.)
Exercise 1) Eh is symbolized by the horse. Only a hundred years ago, horses were an everyday thing. Today, they are few and far between. We are detached from Horse symbolism. A good exercise is to go to a place where you can observe horses. Watch them, and think of what feelings they inspire. It is even better if you can ride a horse. Here you contact the object of the Rune, so to speak. After doing the exercise, it might be a good idea to think of what the horse symbolizes. There are many examples in Norse myth and legend.
(If you go to a racetrack to observe horses, try to stay apart from the habitual gamblers. They have an unhealthy atmosphere about them. You want to experience seeing the horses, not the degenerates.)
Exercise 2) Eh is a rune of loyalty and faithfulness. Loyalty is a two way street. A good exercise is to write down the things to which you are loyal. Ask yourself why you feel this loyalty. You will likely find that your loyalty has a different quality with each of the things listed. The other side of the exercise is to consider people who are loyal and faithful to you. Again, consider the nature of their loyalty. Faithfulness, loyalty and trustworthiness are aspects of the Eh Rune. Your experiences with loyalty are a manifestation of this principle. They are a place where you can feel it strongly in yourself.
Alternate Exercises: Eh is the Rune of a journey. Unlike Raido, where the rider is a passenger traveling established routes, the Eh rider is the driver. He can go off the “beaten path.” Have you ever left the established route to try something new? Have you opted to go to places you rarely or never have gone before? Eh is the freedom to pick a new route. Try this yourself. Go a different way. Go someplace nearby where you never have gone. Make it a journey of exploration. This gives you the feel of freedom as it relates to the Eh Rune and it can be a powerful and pleasant experience.
This next exercise is best for people who can recall feelings easily. The Journey of Eh can be a process. It has a beginning, middle and end. As with driving the horse, so the person conducts the process from one stage to the next. Here you can look to your own experiences with things that require a process. Choose those things in which you had to steer the process. These are better examples than those times when the processes took care of themselves. Focus on your part of controlling the sequence of the process. This is of a similar nature to steering or driving or leading to a destination. Compare how you felt with the processes with how you feel when you are choosing and leading a journey. That place where they feel the same is where you contact the Eh Rune directly.
Children respond well to horses. A variant on the horse exercise is to bring children to see the horses. Watch how they react to the large animals. If possible, arrange for them to ride a horse. (Even a pony will do). The children do not have to know about the Eh Rune. They seem to tap that energy naturally when they get close to horses. In a way, you get to see the Eh Rune in action by reflection. At the very least, it is a good day out and the kids will thank you for it.
If you have been in the Army or Marines, you may have done an Eh Rune activity. Reconnaissance of any sort is an Eh activity, whether it was in a jeep, an APC, a chopper or on foot. Patrolling is a form of recon, so most troops from the combat arms have the experience. Likewise, many of the things done by modern mechanized and air cavalry retain a touch of the Eh Rune.
To keep with the Eh Rune and horse- related mysteries, some folks like to keep one of those Breyer horses on a shelf. The horses are very realistic, and several are posed dynamically. Others like the traditional brightly-painted wooden horses of Scandinavian origin. This is not an exercise, just a thing that some folks do.
As most of you know, I find that adding writing to your exercises makes them work better. Writing takes an idea and gives it a physical location, so to speak. It makes it easier for the mind to “wrap itself around an idea.”

Thank you, this is very helpful!
You know, I was just thinking about this the other day. I was thinking about how we complain about the cost of gas, and yet, once you’ve put the gas in your car, besides a few routine maintenance things from time to time, the car just sits there and then goes wherever you want.
But with a horse, you’d have to be taking care of it constantly, feeding it hay … the cost of gas, I think, pales in comparison with the amount of time if you clocked it to take care of a horse. Not that taking care of a horse is not worth it, mind you, but thinking of the horse helps us to appreciate how good we have it.
On the other hand, a horse does allow you to go off road, as you put it, which most cars do not.
Still, though, the comparison is good. Gosh, if I treated a horse with as much negligence as I’ve treated some cars, I’d be lucky if the horse were still alive. Some lessons for taking care of that which is loyal to us!
