Special Stories

Sometimes I like to read an old book that I had read before. Last week, it was Guadalcanal Diary. I had not read it in about 40 years. Books and movies have a similar quality, in that some are worth reading again, but most are stories you only want to hear once. Different stories talk to different people. For instance, my wife and I enjoy an odd movie called The Fifth Element. We must have seen it at least a dozen times over the years. Why? We don’t know. For whatever reason we enjoy it.

Perhaps you have movies or stories that amuse you time and time again.

There is another side to this equation. Many have a story to tell. People have a story of their own to tell. It is not necessarily their autobiography. The story might be a retelling of an old experience or entirely new fiction. It might be a tale of an insight or a story out of a dream. The story might be very short. Long or short, it is a story waiting to be told. Of course, there might be more than one story to tell…

There are stories told on paper or in videos or moves. Others tell them through music or painting or sculpting. Still others tell theirs through poetry or song. Who knows? I might even tell mine some day.

Our stories are part of us, both the ones we tell and the ones we like to hear. They inform us and they reveal us. Have you told yours?
