Runes, Carts and Torches
In the Elder (German) Futhark, many of the pairs of Runes are opposites and reciprocals. This may apply to one area or several. For instance, the difference between Fehu and Urus is Tame versus Wild. It can also be Many ( the Herd) as opposed to One (The individual). Thurs is a Giant while Ase is a God. You can find many other pairings.
How does Raido differ from Ken? Two examples are evident. We see Raido the Kart as opposed to Ken the Torch. A modern pairing would be the Vehicle and its Headlights. The cart is the vehicle and the headlights / torch reveals the way.
One of Raido’s meanings is a vehicle. It can be a wheeled land vehicle, aircraft, or water craft. A manifestation of Ken is the Lighthouse. Here we have the pairing of the ship / Raido and the Lighthouse / Ken. The boat and that which guides it. Would an aerial version be seen in the Airplane and the Runway Lights? What of a Helicopter and an Aircraft Beacon? Is a land version the Automobile and the Traffic Light?
These little pairings do much to reveal a Rune’s meaning. You can find many more.
There are times we learn by direct knowledge and times when we learn by comparison. In the latter case, we can learn by similar, opposite or reciprocal values. The Runes can reveal much through these methods. All you have to do is look for them.
