Lighten Up!

A friend described his teenage years this way: “We were trying so hard to be cool that we never had any fun.”

There is more than a bit of truth to it. You probably know some adults to whom it would apply. There are folks trying so hard to protect their image that they minimize their enjoyment of life. They are too serious for their own good.

Humorless souls tend to knock the air out of everybody’s fun. Should anyone inject humor into a situation, they react awkwardly. Their own stiffness is a burden to anyone around them.

Life is serious. Joy and humor are part of life. Therefore, a serious person without happiness is not serious about Life. He has missed the whole point of living.
An essential part of living is the ability to laugh. We need to have joy and happiness and humor. Our own humanity demands it.

Would humorless Gods create a world with such amusing things as kookaburras, dolphins and rhesus monkeys?

If you find yourself becoming too serious, take time to enjoy. Get in touch with the things that make you happy. Try a fun meal, see a movie that you would enjoy, go to a place where you have always had fun. Get back to your sense of joy. Otherwise, you will end up being a crusty old grump who spends most of his time alone.

Your happiness is all up to you.
