Restoration

What becomes of a man whose deeds are so bad that he is beneath contempt? What of a woman who is so persistent in maliciousness that she has earned the hatred of all? Christianity offers forgiveness, but the stigma of a bad reputation persists. Heathenism offers people the chance to restore their lives and reputations.

Here we offer hope to the low-life, career criminal and never-do-well. Though they may be living in shame and disgrace because of their misdeeds, they can change it. Through diligent work, a cessation of wrongdoing and a successful effort to embody our cherished principles, even the worst can eventually become an esteemed member of our community.

The key here is initiative. The individual has to take the initiative to restore himself. He has to work to overcome the stigma of his past wrongs and strive to express a high level of integrity. His effort demands that he work to change himself so thoroughly that he will never revert to his past misdeed again. He has to become the kind of person whose choices and behavior are beyond reproach.

It is all about earning. Heathenism gives the opportunity to earn one’s good reputation. No matter how bad a person may have done in the past, he can elevate himself by good effort. Principle is not bound by precedent, and a person need not be bound by his past mistakes.

Here is hope, indeed! This is the hope that encourages action. Rather than a dream, it is a hope that can become realized.

Heathenism may not offer a clean slate, but it makes possible the way to regain respect and dignity. For us, nothing is hopeless. The opportunity always exists to overcome the past. Here a person can regain, restore and renew. It will not turn back the clock, but it will give him a new start
