Gyfu Bridge
The Bridge is a living Gyfu Rune, for it allows an exchange between two places. It is also like the crossroads, where the route over the bridge crosses a river or road underneath. Indeed, a river is a roadway in its own right. Instead of carts and horses, the river is plyed by boats and barges.
I have lived most of my life near bridges. On Staten Island, there were the Verranzano, Goethals, Outerbridge and Bayonne bridges. Up in New York State was the little bridge that crossed the Basher Kill, a stream that ran through the woods. At the Jersey Shore, there are numerous bridges such has those in Belmar and Red Bank and the Highlands. They are so much a part of things that I hardly notice them sometimes.
In ancient Scandinavia and Germany, it was considered a worthy work for a man to have a bridge built. A man who built a bridge had done a sacred work. Travel was impeded by waterways, and bridges made a difference! If you have ever been to Norway, you can see how important a bridge can be.
Bridges open the way that had been closed. They offer safe and dry passage over obstacles. A bridge is a link between two places. It is the route over which a Gift may travel from one to another. Think about a bridge as it relates of Gyfu. You might be surprised at what you discover!
